Why should I vote NO
to the D118 referendum?
hint: Your tax bill could go down.

What are these pots of money?

The school board for D118 is asking voters to vote YES in the March 19, 2024 general primary election. The school district claims that this is no big deal for the tax payer. The school district is only asking to move money from one pot of money to another.

If this is no big deal, then why must tax payers vote on it?

Here is more of the story than you might find on the D118 website. The current bond will be paid off in December 2024. Those bond payments are currently added to our property tax bill. Once that bond is paid off, tax payers should see a REDUCTION in their property tax bill. This makes sense. The bond is paid, we are finished paying for it.

HOWEVER, the district wants us to continue to make those payments so that there will be money in the future tax revenue pot. The district then wants to move that money to their operational fund (the other pot). They are claiming that our taxes will not go up or down if we vote for the referendum.

What they are not telling you is that your tax bill will go DOWN if you vote NO.

But what about all day kindergarten?

The state of Illinois mandate for free all day kindergarten is not required until 2027-28. And the district claims it will only cost $350,000. So why do they need $4.35 million for this mandate that is not even required yet?

Why should I vote NO to the referendum?

What is the district really asking tax payers to approve?
